    How long does it take for stitches to dissolve?

    #65728 Reply

    The continuance of stitches dissolution differs from the sample of the used suture:

    1. Catgut. The resorption time varies from 30 to 120 days and is determined by the diameter of the suture and the site of its application;
    2. Polyester thread from 10-12 to 40-50 days;
    3. Vicryl stitches dissolve within 30-90 days.

    On average it takes 2-4 weeks for external sutures to dissolve and 3-4 month for internal stitches. For detailed information, turn to the surgeon or the GP.
